On Tuesday evening, May 12th, 2009 the K-12 Education Conference Committee finished its work in putting together the Omnibus Education Bill. On the charter school policy front, the bill dealt with every issue that was included in the MACS Charter School Accountability and Innovation Act.
Then, on Sunday, May 17th, 2009, Governor Tim Pawlenty signed the bill into law. This "second generation" charter school law contains the most significant changes in Minnesota's charter school law since 1991, and ushers Minnesota's charter school movement into a new era.
In this webinar, presented by the MN Association of Charter Schools on May 20th and 21st, 2009, MACS Executive Director Eugene Piccolo provided an overview on the major accountability and innovation provisions related to charter schools contained in the Omnibus Education Bill.
Over 200 people signed up for these two hour long webinars, asking us dozens of questions about the changes to the law. Many of these questions are answered in further detail if you look at our "In-Depth Legislative Changes" Webinar Series!
