Job Description

Paraprofessional SPED, 1.0 FTE, Career Pathways Public Charter Secondary School

Our teacher led team seeks full time Special Education Paraprofessionals to work with our general and special education teams for the 2023-24 school year.

We welcome candidates new to education and will provide coaching and professional development. Our class sizes are small and we have an awesome team of talented teachers who have a passion for student centered learning.

This is an hourly position. Some flexibility in hours will be considered depending upon the needs of the students. Students are in the building 7:50am to 2:20pm. The average workday is 7:20 to 3:20.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
General Responsibilities
Assist professional school personnel in classrooms, educational programs, buses, lunchrooms, and other areas as needed. The paraprofessional works under close supervision of a special education teacher, classroom teacher, and administrative team. Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED
Basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics
Basic skills in typing and duplicating may be required for some positions
Ability to develop good relationships with students, parents and staff
Ability to be sensitive to the needs of others
Ability to relate to students with warmth, friendliness, and understanding
Ability to work with special educational students
Must be on time to your job everyday
Basic understanding of confidentiality and data privacy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Meet the Highly Qualified certification requirements (ie. passing score on the ParaPro Exam, a 2 year degree, or another certification program)
Experience working in an urban public school or community education program
Training in conflict resolution and de escalation techniques
Interest in contributing in other ways to support the needs of students (Robotics, PE, Coaching, Film Making or Recording Arts)
Bilingual
Experience with different cultures than your own
