Job Description

Job Title: K-8 Administrator: Dean of Students
Reports to: Principal
Status: Full Time Contract
Timeline: Accepting Applications Immediately and Until Position Filled
The Art and Science Academy (ASA) is a 10-year old charter school with an enrollment of approximately 330 students located in Isanti, MN. ASA is dedicated to providing a quality education in a small-school environment utilizing arts and science integrated instruction.
ASA is looking for an energetic professional to help lead the community through a transitional and organizational change. This position will be modified to meet the needs of the district and talents of the candidate and current staff as needed.
The K-8 administrator will participate in the administrative transition to district wide programming, engagement, instructional planning and operations. The administrator will provide leadership in setting a positive district culture, direction and instructional/behavioral standards.
The K-8 administrator will be responsible for ensuring required federal, state, and Board mandates and policies are adhered to in the best interest of student learning. The administrator will be the instructional leader, engagement coordinator and will be responsible for setting high behavioral and performance standards for students, staff and programs.
The K-8 administrator will report to the Principal and will ensure the school’s mission and vision are at the core of all decisions. The K-8 administrator is responsible for the safety, engagement and instructional growth of all students. The K-8 administrator is responsible for the hiring, supervision and evaluation of K-8 employees, under the direction of the principal.
NOTE – Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.
Communicate effectively with the Principal, Executive Director and Board of Directors and provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the executive director and board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
Inform the director on issues, needs, and operation of the school system.
Provide input on the development and implementation of long- and short-range plans for achieving the strategic plan goals and objectives.
Work collaboratively with district leadership and staff to ensure safety, security, instructional excellence, student growth and engagement at all levels of district operations.

Essential Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Strong instructional pedagogy and experience, knowledge of School Board policies/ Minnesota State Statutes, and Federal programs. Awareness of community support, community expectations for the school’s curriculum and instructional theory and practices is essential. Ability to set a welcome tone, while maintaining school order and expectations, while engaging stakeholders is vital. The position requires, among other qualities, managerial, observational, communications, and leadership skills and abilities, or any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Experience with charter schools is preferred.
Education and/or Experience:
PREFERRED Education: Master’s degree and Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree or higher in Administration and Supervision or Educational Leadership or experience and education so support the position.
Experience: Have at least three years of successful teaching and 3 years of education administration experience. Prefer school or school system administrative experience with concentration in instructional leadership, behavioral management, and community engagement.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Current Minnesota State K-12 administrative license preferred.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, write and interpret documents such as curriculum guides, budgets, test results, contracts, grant applications, statutes, and policies. Ability to understand and generate written memorandums, employee evaluations, and correspondence with business and public contacts. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to individuals and groups. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from parents, staff, students, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Experience in working with and preparing budgets and the ability to read and interpret fiscal reports.
Computer Skills:
Must be knowledgeable of current school software, and a variety of electronic tools. Must be capable of correspondence using e-mail or other web-based applications.
Reasoning Ability:
Analyze problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
