Lower School & Kinder Center
Special Education Behavior Support Staff
Job Summary:
The Behavior Support staff provides behavioral, social and emotional support for Kinder Center and Lower School special education students. The Behavior Support staff uses strategies and approaches that align with LILA’s school-wide model (Responsive Classroom and International Baccalaureate) and social curriculum. This person works directly with the other behavior staff (the Dean of Students and Behavior Interventionist/Student Success Coach) in implementing behavior management techniques, intervention strategies, coping skills, and problem-solving for students with behavioral challenges.
Essential Functions:
-Partner with general education and special education staff in implementation of the school’s social curriculum.
-Collaborate with other staff (Dean of Students, Behavior Interventionist/Student Success Coach, Special Education paraprofessionals, Special Education teachers, general education teachers) to meet the needs of students with special education services who exhibit behavioral challenges.
-Monitor strategies and methods to help students with behaviors.
-Be familiar and collaborate with case managers to implement student Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
-When needed, use Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) strategies with students.
-As requested, support Special Education paraprofessionals in the classroom.
-As needed, contact parents to discuss student issues, working toward understanding and supporting the teacher and school approach with student learning needs.
-As needed, participate in the Intervention Support Team and serve as a resource for teachers (K-5) in developing, implementing and assessing evidence-based interventions.
-As needed, provide paraprofessional support and substitute coverage.
-Attend and participate in other building meetings as assigned.
-Follow School Board policies and keep abreast of updates and changes.
-Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
-Must have a minimum of two years’ experience working at LILA
-Experience working with students with emotional and behavioral disorders.
Preferences:
-Proficiency in Spanish and/or Mandarin Chinese preferred, but not required.
Physical Requirements: This position requires vocal communication, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, use of hands to grasp and feel, and vision abilities including close, distance, and adjusting focus. Lifting/moving required frequently up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds or more. Work occasionally requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and is generally in a moderately noisy location. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
