Job Description

Job Title : School Regulation/Sensory Specialist
Reports To: Special Education, Occupational Therapy Dept., Per Campus
Supervises: None
Status: Non-Exempt, 189 Calendar days with occasional PD days

Updated for 2025-2026 School Year
What You Will Do:
Assist in developing, implementing and overseeing student specific sensory diets.
Plan, follow, implement and schedule sensory diet plans with students.
Maintain program space and supplies to support optimal learning and meet professional standards.
Directly support students engaged in regulation groups and with indirect OT minutes to support a sensory diet plan on a daily basis.
Develop and plan schedules to accommodate students in the program in conjunction with classroom teachers.
Create, maintain, and update Data Tracking System-if needed for decision making in the IEP progress
Enter student progress data daily
Participate in decision making regarding regulation and OT needs
Share information and findings of student progress with teachers, staff members on a regularly developed schedule.
Train school support staff in methodology.
Support classrooms with OT/ space/ curriculum.
Attend individual student meetings as requested.
Work with the community to assist in the board mission for a fully inclusive program.
Develop and maintain relationships with existing programs to partner with and utilize proven community resources.
Attend annual training to assure understanding of new and developing research based practice.
Attend annual training related to up-to-date legal requirements for personnel issues.
Attend annual training related to State and Federal Law as it is related to special education and student rights.
Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds or move quickly to contain a student

Knowledge of the following computer applications: iOS equipment and NeoOffice products, Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Qualifications

What You Need:
Bachelor's Degree in Arts or Science OR currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program with expected graduation within one year of hire.
Experience in working with students with special education needs
Attend 40 hours training for Registered Behavior Technician (RBT),
Maintain certification as certified RBT with the Behavior Analysts Certification Board
Complete appropriate training to support the Occupational Therapy Team in order to lead classroom groups such as Yoga Calm, Mindup -curriculum, Social Thinking, that support school regulation.
Ability to achieve and maintain status of “not disqualified” upon completion of criminal background studies.

Institution Description

The Mission of Spero Academy is to provide an individualized and adaptive education to help students grow academically, emotionally and socially.

We are a nonprofit charter school that is devoted to educational programs for students with disabilities that foster a sense of respect, responsibility and community. We are looking for a School Regulation/Sensory Specialist who is eager to work with elementary students who are on the autistic spectrum or who may have other social, emotional and physical disabilities. We are looking for someone who will support the Occupational Therapy Department as student support specialist, curriculum design and maintenance, direct and indirect services and through organizational support and input.
