Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Special Education Teacher - English Language Arts.
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Special Education Coordinator.
POSITION STATUS: Exempt.
CORE HOURS: Monday – Friday from 7:45am – 4:15pm.
DUTY DAYS: 187 per year.

POSITION PURPOSE
- To ensure student literacy needs are addressed using best practice and research-based strategies and interventions in both special education and general education settings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Collaborate with general education teachers to accommodate and modify lesson plans, activities, assignments, and tests.
- Team teach with general education teachers.
- Maintain accurate and complete lesson plans.
- Collaborate with general education teacher and educational assistant to implement student individual behavior plans.
- Work with a team on the continued implementation and development of programming for literacy education of 7th-12th grade students.
- Organize and oversee data collection for academic and/or behavioral goals and objectives in general education classrooms.
- Provide direct instruction on academic goals and objectives.
- Write progress reports summarizing data collected each quarter.
- Ensure that students’ accommodations and modifications are being implemented and academic service minutes are being served.
- Monitor due process documents for accuracy and compliance.
- Provide input to case managers on students before IEP meetings and attend IEP meetings if necessary.
- Collaborate with case manager to determine present levels of performance and write standards-based goals.
- Attend special education and general education department meetings.
- Maintain positive, professional relationships and use appropriate verbal, nonverbal and written communication with all individuals.

Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- MN Special Education Teaching license.
- Ability to operate a computer and the software necessary to complete the required job tasks.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- MN Reading License or Certificate.
- In the process of gaining ASD Licensure or hold a certificate with the willingness to pursue licensure.
- Experience, interest and/or expertise working with students on the autism spectrum, varied learning styles and levels of mastery.
- Experience in teaching literacy and the Read 180 program.
- Experience in differentiation, using creative teaching techniques from project-based to direct-instruction in developing personalized learning plans for each student.
