Job Description

Job Title: Spanish Guide - IB and Introduction to Spanish Instruction
Level: Adolescent
Classification: 1.0 FET, exempt regular salaried employee
Compensation: Commensurate with experience
Benefits Eligibility: Yes
Licensure or certification: Valid Minnesota Teaching License, World Languages 6-12
Reports to: Adolescent Program Director
School Year: 2024-2025, starting August of 2024

General Description:
This position delivers instruction of introductory Spanish and IB Spanish courses. The Spanish Guide at Great River School monitors student progress, supports students in understanding concepts and skills, manages student goals and assessment within the course, carries out duties related to the operation of Great River School including community meetings, collaboration with student support specialists, special education, and colleagues teaching within the same level and department.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:
Course load includes 1-2 sections of Spanish Ab initio, 3 sections of 9th grade--Spanish 1, and 1-2 sections of a Spanish Elective (Spanish film)
Licensure and/or experience in Spanish instruction, specifically interest and experience in IB Spanish instruction at the standard level (SL)
Understand developmental tendencies of adolescent students, implement student-centered and inquiry-based learning opportunities
Participate in the beginning of the school year, overnight trips and experiential learning with students.
Desire to be part of a team of professional educators who collaborate and create an environment that serves students holistically.
Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects using formal and informal formative assessment data
Uses a variety of culturally relevant practices to support content standards and student needs
Cultivate a classroom environment that is inclusive and conducive to learning
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required school guidelines.
Implements all policies and rules governing student life and conduct both in the school and on field trips.
Engage in student/caregiver conferences each semester. Engage in caregiver communication when needed.
Serve as a back-up advisor; this position has a standing lunch or recess duty when not standing if for an advisor in an absence.
Participate in Creativity, Activity, Service, leading activities on Wednesday Afternoons

Professional Development responsibilities:
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence through professional development activities.
Engage with discussions, activities, and research that supports literacy intervention and assessment across the grade levels.
Works toward continuous learning in Anti-bias, Anti-racist teaching and learning, culturally relevant pedagogy, and standards-based grading.
Participate in appropriate Montessori training as needed (May involve travel).
Other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Supervisor

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
Valid Minnesota Teaching License, World Languages 6-12
Preferred licenses or certifications:
Degree in Spanish or Spanish Language Instruction
Credential in Montessori (AMI or AMS), or open to training,
International Baccalaureate training, experience, and/or willingness to be trained
MN State Teaching License
Experience working with students individually and in small groups
Montessori experience
Experience with standards-based grading
Understanding of Anti-Racist and Anti Biased knowledge, practices, and competencies
