Job Description

The Math and Science Academy is hiring a Second Semester General Education Paraprofessional to work on student contact days. This role provides educational support, based on system and student needs related to mathematics interventions.

Required: Bachelor of Science or Arts degree or a minimum of three years of paraprofessional experience with two years of education beyond high school. Candidates need to feel comfortable helping MSA students in grades 6 through 12 in mathematics.
Schedule: Student contact days with a daily schedule to allow one-to-one or small group support, explanation, and/or reteaching as needed. Assigned students may be served in special education. Estimated to work 9am-4pm, and approximately 37 hours per week. Hours per week may change depending on student contact days.
Pay: $20.12 to 28.82 per hour based on education and relevant experience.
Reports to the Middle School Principal.

Essential Duties:
Follow through with assigned duties.
Establishes a rapport with students and assists in learning lessons developed and presented by the teacher.
Explains and interprets class assignments
Decides when discipline should be instituted on a one-to-one or small group basis as directed by the classroom teacher
Provides learning and re-teaching of lessons as needed and as directed by the classroom teacher
Provides learning and re-teaching of lessons as needed
Observe/Chart student progress as directed.
Serve as a Check & Connect mentor to assigned students.
Redirect students who are off-task.
Assist students with transitions between activities/classes.
Maintain confidentiality.
Be a positive role model; modeling school appropriate behavior at all times.
Attend school sponsored training when appropriate.
Assist special education case managers as directed.
Communicate questions/concerns through proper channels.
Communicate/alert teacher with student concerns, missing assignments.
Additional duties as assigned.

b. Embodies MSA Core Values in daily activities.
c. Treats all students in an equitable manner.

Physical Job Requirements:

Physical requirements associated with the position can be best summarized as follows:
o Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible
amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move
objects, including the human body.

● Hazardous Working Conditions
o Duties are performed in a typical school setting. There are minimal environmental hazards and risks associated with the nature of the work.

Under Minnesota Statute, a charter school must employ or contract with necessary teachers, supervisory personnel, and support personnel, as defined by section 122A.15, who hold valid licenses to perform the particular service for which they are employed in the school. In addition, if a teacher employed by a district makes a written request for an extended leave of absence to teach at a charter school, the district must grant the leave. You also maintain your TRA benefits, since MSA is a public school.
