Job Description

A. Implement Instruction
• Communicate a high level of expectation
• Have a current personalized learning plan for each student in the advisory group
• Teach license area specific seminars as needed
• Help lead recreational activities
• Respond to daily student journals
• Monitor daily sustained silent reading
• Create and implement teacher-led advisory projects
• Require students to analyze and apply knowledge
• Display enjoyment, humor, and enthusiasm for teaching

B. Evaluate Instruction
• Support student academic progress and monitor each student’s progress toward graduation
• Expect each NLCS student to earn his or her credits and provide an educationally sound explanation if this does not happen.
• Provide re-teaching and/or interventions when appropriate

C. Classroom Management
• Create and support an open and honest culture within the advisory group
• Build a positive and respectful atmosphere for learning
• Monitor student attendance with a 90+ percent rate as a goal
• Enter assignments and attendance in Infinite Campus

D. Cooperate with Learning Team
• Willingness to team with other teaching staff in improving mathematics and reading instruction program-wide
• Take part in NLCS staff development activities
• Work with special education staff members to support identified students
• Contribute to the achievement of NLCS’ annual goals
• Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, parents, and students

E. Parent and Community Involvement
• Hold at least two meetings with a parent or guardian of each student during the school year
• Lead the advisory in hosting at least one community event per year

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree

• A valid license to teach grades 6-12 in Minnesota
• Preferred licensure areas: Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies
