Job Description

Job Title: Elementary and Extended Day Music Workshop Guide
Level: Elementary
Classification: 1.0 FTE (10 month position)
Licensure or Certification: MN State Teaching Licensure or ability to obtain a license
Benefits Eligible: Yes
Compensation: Commensurate with experience
Reports to: Elementary Program Director & Extended Day Program Director
Start Date: August 2025

General Description:
Great River seeks a versatile, active and creative teacher to teach music and related interdisciplinary topics to children grades 1-6. This person will also provide structure and supervision during elementary recess and lunch time and instruction and supervision in the after care program. The schedule for this role would be working 8 hours daily from 9:45 am to 5:45 pm. This role seeks a creative, child-development minded music educator looking to make an impact in a Public Montessori setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching & Planning duties:
Elementary Music Teacher (.5 FTE): Plan and teach lessons incorporating vocal and basic instrumental music, music theory and history, and related interdisciplinary topics to be determined with guides, with a rotating schedule of mixed-age classes including Lower Elementary (grades 1-3) and Upper Elementary (grades 4-6).

Other duties of direct service & supervision:
Guide, Aftercare Program (.3 FTE): Supervise free play & provide outdoor education instruction to students in grades 1-6. Provide consistent behavioral support in our daily aftercare program which encourages creative, open-ended play and self-directed choices and learning.
Recess and/or Lunch Supervision as assigned (.2 FTE): supervise and engage with students during lunch period. Monitor and engage with students at recess and assist other staff members as needed to help ensure a fun and safe experience for all students.

Typical schedule for this role would be planning and administrative time from 9:45-11:00 am and student contact from 11:15-5:45 pm with a scheduled half hour lunch break. This role seeks a creative, child-development minded educator looking to make an impact in a Public Montessori setting.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
Background and experience in music instruction and/or performance
2+ years of leading arts education for children
Bachelor’s Degree
MN State Teaching License or ability to obtain a license
Familiarity with the Montessori method of education
A commitment to education as a transformational experience
An ability to consider the beliefs and perspectives of others
A willingness to support a culture of collaboration and teamwork
Willingness and enjoyment of the outdoors in all types of weather
Desire to be engaged with children ages 6-12

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a music teacher
Experience setting firm and clear boundaries with school aged children
Experience in after school and/or summer camp programming
Experience with the unique opportunities and challenges of a Montessori program serving ages 6-18.
