Who we are

Sojourner Truth Academy is a Pre-K-8 public charter elementary school in North Minneapolis with proven academic and fiscal records. Established by parents and community members in 1999, we continue to offer our students a data driven, balanced curriculum with a highly qualified staff that is supported through our Teacher Leadership Teams and School Improvement System.
Monthly parent events, an on-site, full-time social worker; mental health program; dental clinic, ESL program, and special education programs give us the opportunity to build real relationships and supply students and families with the support they need, when they need it. All-day Pre-K and free all-day kindergarten helps prepare students more thoroughly fo the expectations of the upper grades.

Curriculum

- Bridge2Read - Tier I word study and phonics program developed by ServeMinnesota and implemented in Kindergarten through Grade 3

- ReadyGen and myPerspectives - High quality, authentic reading and writing curriculum created by Savvas Learning Company and implemented in Kindergarten through Grade 8 (fully implemented in 2022-2023)

- Eureka Math - Rigorous math curriculum with a focus on critical thinking and problem-solving created by Great Minds and implemented in Pre-K through Grade 8. 

- PITSCO Science - Interactive STEM labs created by PITSCO Education and implemented in Grades 6-8.

Programmatic Focus

Sojourner Truth Academy strives to provide high-quality, differentiated instruction to all scholars based on the Minnesota State Standards and by utilizing rigorous and engaging curricula. Teachers facilitate positive classroom environments where it is expected that scholars take an active role in the learning process by applying critical thinking skills, engaging in discourse, and being willing to take risks.
