Glacial Hills Elementary School

Category: Increasing Learning Opportunities for All Pupils

At Glacial Hills Elementary School, an innovative change to their schedule has provided students with learning opportunities usually seen in larger districts without adding more responsibilities to their teachers. Fulfilled Classes, which take place each Friday afternoon, are block classes which allow students to participate in specialized programming around environmental ed, STEM, art, wellness, recreation, and life skills. Since implementing this change, students are attending school more often, are more engaged, and are demonstrating notable academic growth in math and reading. In addition, SOAR Time provides 3rd through 6th graders with several course offerings each month that are driven by student voice and aim to help students discover their passions, connect with community members, and become lifelong learners.
