Community School of Excellence - Increased Learning Opportunities for Pupils
The Asian Penguins Club was founded because, “kids can make amazing things happen if they have the tools to do so.”
The students began learning Linux, an open source software program, and realized that this program could help lessen the technology divide among students.
The Club’s members were able to recycle old computers by installing Linux software and provide free laptops to families in need.
The school’s students and their families benefited greatly from this program because the computer goes beyond the school’s former 1:1 laptop program because the families get to keep the repurposed computers even when students leave the school.
The Club’s students benefit because they are learning in-demand programming skills, and the school benefits because the Club’s members have implemented their own fundraising program which subsequently supplied Community School of Excellence with 60 new laptops to replace those repurposed for student and family use.
