Twin Cities German Immersion School
Category: Creating Different and Innovative Forms of Measuring Outcomes
Twin Cities German Immersion School, a K-8 public charter school in St. Paul, developed curriculum-based measurement literacy assessments, which assess the acquisition of early reading skills in German for students based on local norms to help distinguish between students struggling with learning a new language versus those struggling with literacy more broadly. These German literacy assessments, or screeners, were developed in-house and screen for German letter sound fluency (K-1st) and German reading fluency (1st-5th). These assessments are administered to students on a one-to-one basis three times per year.
